French passport, identity card, driving licence and visa photos are 35 × 45 mm, with the face taking up 70 to 80 per cent of the height. The background has to be plain and light: white works for every French form, and the official guidance also accepts light grey or light blue. The photo must be less than six months old, taken face-on with a neutral closed-mouth expression and no headwear. Campus France student files are the one exception, at 26 × 32 mm.
