How to take an Egypt passport photo with your phone
The size we list for the Egyptian passport is 40×60 mm on a plain white background at 300 DPI. This specification has not been confirmed against an official source, so the page carries the standard badge rather than the verified one: use the numbers as a starting point and check them with the Passports, Immigration and Nationality Administration — or with your nearest Egyptian consulate if you are applying from abroad, since missions sometimes publish their own sheet.
The framing is the ICAO one used by every modern passport: the head fills roughly 70–80% of the picture height from the chin to the crown, shoulders square to the lens, eyes on the camera. Stand about 1.5 metres from a white wall, have someone hold the phone at your eye level with the rear camera, and use daylight from a window in front of you instead of a lamp behind the photographer. Shoot loose; we crop to the rectangle and position the head afterwards.
Why an Egypt passport photo comes back
Counters here ask for more prints than most — two, four or six depending on the form in front of you — and the fastest way to waste a trip is to arrive with a single photo or with prints that no longer look like you. Print a full sheet on matte photo paper at 300 DPI and keep the digital file for the online booking steps.
The rejection reasons are the ones every passport office shares: a background that is grey, cream or tinted by a warm bulb instead of plain white, a shadow behind the head, a smile with teeth instead of a neutral expression with the mouth closed, glare on glasses, and a low-resolution crop taken from a family photo. A hijab or other religious head covering is accepted as long as the whole face is visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and no shadow falls across the eyes.
Where an Egypt passport photo is used
The same photo is used for the passport application and renewal and, in practice, for much of the national identity and civil-status paperwork handled at the same offices, as well as by Egyptian consulates abroad. Because this specification is not verified, confirm the size and the number of prints with the office that will receive your file before you print.
